Pond Management for Private Pond Owners – Part 1

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service Office in Fort Bend County will conduct a two part online series on pond management. The presentations are designed for landowners with new, existing, or plans for a pond. These presentations are free to attend, but you must register on Eventbrite.

The first presentation, “Aquatic Vegetation and Management”, will be held on Wednesday, March 3rd from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm. Topics discussed will include: identifying aquatic plant species, when aquatic plants become a problem, basics of why aquatic vegetation needs to be controlled, and how to select an appropriate herbicide, biological, or physical control method.

The second presentation, “Fish Management Strategies for Recreational Fishing Ponds”, will be held on Thursday, March 11th from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm. Topics discussed will include: natural food availability and sources, food chain development, fertilization to grow bigger fish, feeding fish with fish food and fish nutrition, identifying population problems, maximum fish production strategy, big bass management strategy, big bluegill/pan fish management strategy, Black crappie management strategy, Largemouth bass genetics, and fish attracting structures.
